Pathway Project: 14 St NW
My office has received multiple requests from residents and area schools for a formal pathway along 14th ST. I’m happy to announce that a 1.7 KM multi-use pathway will be built along 14th ST NW from Berkshire BLVD NW to Hidden Valley DR NW.
The pathway will run the length of the dotted line.
Construction is expected to begin late July and complete before November 2025. Please note, this timeline may change due to factors such as weather, ground conditions, and site access.
The new pathway will connect to the city's larger network of pathways and bikeways. When complete, it will provide a dedicated space for people to safely walk and wheel through the community. Visit the pathway and bikeway project webpage for a list of pathway and bikeway projects being delivered in 2025 or email the team at Pathwayconstruction@calgary.ca.
Project Details:
The new 3-metre asphalt pathway will replace segments of the sidewalk and informal trail. It will link the existing pathway at Hidden Valley Drive N.W. and 14 Street N.W. to the pathways at Nose Hill Park.
The project will also implement wheelchair ramps at intersections along the alignment to create safer and more accessible crossings.
Construction details:
Work may take place anytime between 7AM-7PM, Monday-Saturday. The following impacts can be expected:
Single-lane road closures are expected, but two-way traffic will be maintained.
The existing sidewalk along the route will be closed where construction is occurring. The contractor will provide safe detour routes for pedestrians and cyclists.
Two transit pads will need to be reconstructed. Temporary bus stop locations will be provided.
Some trees will need to be trimmed or removed to accommodate the wider pathway. These activities will occur with a qualified arborist and under the supervision of Urban Forestry. Any trees removed will be replaced with new trees in the community.
I recognize that MacEwan has had a lot of pavement rehabilitation this spring, but I believe a short-term disturbance is worth the investment in our communities.
